Alpine Chorus is a collaborative environment for the creation of analytics solutions on big data. It allows organizations to move away from point solutions, often developed in isolation, and embrace stakeholders and professionals who have an interest in exploiting predictive analytics models in the business.
In most organizations analytics is a relatively new activity, and is often fragmented both in terms of technology and effort. Many tasks are duplicated with considerable associated costs. Chorus provides a platform for data scientists, IT and business management to share and collaborate on analytics projects.
In practical terms this means the sharing of analytical models, data preparation tasks (often the most labor intensive activity) and the tools for management to monitor and manage many aspects of model development and deployment – crucial if managers are to have confidence in business processes using analytical models. It also facilitates the sharing of analytical efforts across multiple organizations where collaborative activity is important.
Alpine Chorus is accessed by an easy to use browser based interface, allowing participants to see who is working on what and share information and effort. The resulting analytical models can be run directly against Hadoop clusters without the usual overhead of data extraction. Chorus provides a ‘search’ environment where users can search for people, data, models and projects providing great transparency and boosting productivity.
Predictive models are not risk free. Reducing risk involves the constant monitoring of performance and having the management and reporting infrastructure in place so that models can be modified in a timely manner. Without a platform to enable such functionality even the best efforts might mean days or weeks before a degrading model can be addressed. Chorus enables this crucial feedback loop to be executed within just a few hours.
As the predictive analytics market matures a platform of this nature will become the larger part of the cake, providing the reassurance that management will need before they deploy predictive models into production. Right now Chorus stands alone in offering collaborative capability of this nature, and a number of major wins bear testament to the attractiveness of the offering.
