Most announcements from suppliers are fairly high on the yawn-factor scale – but not the latest one from Sisense. The company has just announced Sisense BI Virtually Everywhere. In a nutshell it means that BI is no longer trapped within your 2D display – be it on the desktop or on a portable device. Sisense now supports the use of IoT type devices to communicate meaning, and something as simple as a light bulb that glows different colors depending on the data transmitted to it, is proving to be much more communicative than something displayed on a laptop.
By combining business intelligence with the Internet of Things and AI, Sisense liberates data insights from the confines of the 2D screen and makes it possible to interact with data on a more human level, using speech and sight to intuitively discover new ways to improve one’s business.
Sisense BI Virtually Everywhere first integrations are with the Amazon Echo and a Sisense-enabled IoT Lightbulb. Sisense is already driving value with this program in initial pilots with companies like Act-On Software, Skullcandy, and CTSI-Global. Through these devices Sisense is creating a more intuitive channel for understanding business data and driving higher employee engagement with analytics. One pilot customer reported a 500% increase in BI user engagement, fulfilling a long-standing initiative to becoming a more data-enabled enterprise.
In a recent interview with Wired magazine Amir Orad, CEO of Sisense stated that “Sisense’s mission is to simplify business analytics for complex data. We are pushing this concept across the entire BI value chain embedding analytics in the physical world.”. He then added that “Sisense is uniquely positioned to open a new path in accessing data insights with our In-ChipTM Technology. These innovations are creating a more intuitive, personal connection to data, removing traditional limitations posed by 2D screens, by giving business users the ability to have simple conversations about their data, and visual insights into business performance and KPIs. Sisense continues to build on advancements in AI, IoT, and Virtual Reality to make it easier for professionals to understand their businesses. Sisense chose to integrate with Amazon’s Alexa AI engine through Echo devices to make it easier for professionals to interact with their data through conversation and natural language. Before launching a Sisense dashboard, professionals can ask Alexa questions to quickly retrieve facts about their business, for example, “Alexa, what is my revenue for today?”.
Today, users can ask the Amazon Echo specific questions about their data, which has been set up through Sisense dashboards. The Echo communicates with the Sisense server working behind the scenes to reference desired information. Sisense leverages proprietary technology to make high volumes of data from many disparate sources easily accessible to the user.
About the IoT Lightbulb Integration
Sisense selected the IoT Lightbulb as one of our first device integrations because it provides a subtle but ever-present method of understanding a business’s performance. The IoT Lightbulb can be set-up to easily show progress towards an important KPI by changing color in response to desired KPI milestones. While perhaps not an obvious device to make businesses smarter about their data, the IoT Lightbulb has already driven better user engagement with dashboards. When users see the visual reminder, they are emotionally triggered and become motivated to understand what’s happening on a deeper level and have been launching their Sisense dashboards more frequently for better context.
Todd Winton of CTSI-Global connected the IoT Lightbulb with a new deployed systems engagement level KPIs and saw the dramatic 500% uptick in system interaction volumes. “When rolling out a new software system, we tied the bulb to a threshold monitoring system logins across our employees. Below the threshold value, the bulb was red. Before utilizing the Sisense bulb, we were seeing just a few daily logins, but once we connected the bulb and put it in an open space that all the employees could see, system logins grew immediately. People did not like seeing red. This simple tool impacted our team to a greater extent than anyone expected.”
